Description :
Network Administrator II is responsible for a wide variety of tasks involving the campus network, telephone system, network-related infrastructure such as DNS and DHCP, and other tasks as needed. The position will also be responsible for management and maintenance of the client wireless network.
Essential Functions
Work with the Network Administrator III, Team Leads, and Department Director to ensure network security and connectivity
Incorporate all-new endpoint devices into the network
Deploy, Update and Maintain current LAN, WAN, wireless infrastructure, and
Voice over IP (VoIP) telecommunications
Troubleshoot network issues, perform hardware replacement upgrades, and restoration
Perform analytics to determine trends in server, network and device performances. Submit results and initial analysis to the team for further analysis and recommendations
Perform network programming to maintain adequate network security to include: firewalls, routers, switches, authentication systems and cryptography to network services
Document physical and logical network designs
Implement networking services through working on Unix, Linux, and Windows-based servers
Maintain host name servers and their IP addresses which involved DNS (domain name service) and DHCP (dynamics host configuration protocol)
Maintain VLAN and IP address schemas
Ensure proxy authentication through NPS (network policy service) and Radius
Be on-call 24x7 in case of emergency network issues and to handle any outages relating to the network/telephony
Mentor Junior Network Administrators and provide appropriate guidance, as needed
Mentor and supervisor Student Assistants and provide appropriate guidance
Ensure efficiency, security, reliability, and usability of network equipment through proactive monitoring and automation
Define network policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Required:
Five years of experience working with IP networks and supporting systems
Experience with firewalls, Internet VPN's remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution
Ability to work independently and with minimal day-to-day supervision
Ability to set-up and configure network equipment and appliances
Proven problem-solving skills in a multiple-vendor environment
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
Experience cable planting, repairing, management and termination
A Bachelor's degree in related field or 5+years of experience
Ideal candidate will have experience administering Linux Servers
Ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of hands-on server administration in a Windows environment
Ideal candidate will have a proven record of completing projects with implementing Extreme, HP, Cisco, Aerohive, Palo Alto, and APC technologies
Ideal candidate will have technical project planning, change management and documentation skills
VoIP experience with SIP and PRI
Route, Switch, Security, Firewall experience
OSPF and other dynamic routing experience
Aerohive Device and Hive Manager experience
FreePBX Asterisk experience
Cisco Call Manager Express
Experience monitoring network traffic and making appropriate recommendations
Experience with IP addressing and sub-netting
Certified Education in the Associated Field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Basic computer/networking problem-solving skills
Understanding of basic networking concepts
Ability to be highly self-motivated, with keen attention to detail
Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Good customer service and communication skills
Ability to work non-traditional hours as required
